Built in 1864 and modeled after La Scala in Milan, this is one of the oldest and most beautiful opera houses in Greece and it offers occasional daytime tours for visitors. Even if a tour is not available, standing in the ornate lobby with kids and explaining that a small Aegean island built this is its own kind of lesson.
